After leaving Denver a little late, Morgan and I decided to drive as far as we could the first night and stop when our eyes got tired. As we pulled into Clayton, New Mexico we decided that with two hours till the next town we better call it a night. We pulled into a Love's Truck Stop, backed "The Moment" in next to all the semi's and headed to bed. Upon climbing into The Moment, we realized our battery had not held a charge, leaving us with no lights. I grabbed a headlamp, and turned it on only to notice that our beers had taken a 6 foot fall and continued to roll around the trailer. Luckily only a few had exploded, but this still meant a sticky wet floor and a saturated rug (which 6 days later still has not been thoroughly cleaned due to a lack of water supply to airstream). Oh well, guess I'll get to it tomorrow (this also means we have ANTS, yuck).
As excited as I was to see Texas, I quickly learned that West Texas has a lot of cows, cotton fields, and small towns. My first exciting moment was noticing that the stop lights do not hang vertical, but are mounted horizontal. I was amused by the silo's and the radio towers as well! Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised to pull into Dallas and see civilization!
Our first day there we rode our bikes into Dallas and checked out the city. I fell in love with the architecture style in the business district. Morgan said it kind of reminded him of England. We found a really cool plaza that was filled with water features that thoroughly amused me. Of course we had to stop and take pictures. Our next big stop was Dealey Plaza. We listened to the conspiracy theorist, talked to a bum on the street and took pictures on the "x" where the fatal shot took place. Morgan's favorite part was finding a plaque that read "President Kennedy Expired". His exact response (after a hardy laugh) was "what is he, milk?"
The wedding festivities were a blast and Morgan had such a great time seeing all his old friends... (I'll make him take this part of the story over). With that said, to be continued.....
